Questions about our Cladding Screws?

What is the difference between A2 304 and A4 316 stainless steel screws?

A2 304 stainless steel is suited to inland and sheltered environments. A4 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum for superior corrosion resistance in coastal and marine conditions. Choose A2 for standard residential projects. Choose A4 within 1km of salt water or in high-humidity zones.

What finish options are available for SPAX cladding screws?

SPAX facade and cladding screws come in BLAX (black), Antique, Vintage, and standard stainless finishes. BLAX is the most popular for dark-profile timber and composite cladding. Antique suits heritage or weathered timber looks. All finishes use the same A2 304 stainless base for long-term durability.

Are these screws compliant with the National Construction Code?

Yes. SPAX and AnchorMark stainless steel screws meet NCC 2025 requirements for external cladding fasteners. They satisfy corrosion resistance standards for BAL zones and coastal applications. Always confirm the correct grade (A2 or A4) based on your site's exposure classification.

What screw size do I need for timber cladding on cavity battens?

For standard cavity batten systems, use 4.5x50mm or 4x45mm screws. The 50mm length provides enough penetration through cladding board and into the batten. For thicker hardwood cladding profiles over 20mm, consider the 5x60mm option for added pull-out strength. Pre-drilling is recommended for hardwood species.

Do SPAX facade screws require pre-drilling?

SPAX facade screws feature a patented cut point and serrated thread designed for direct fastening into softwood battens without pre-drilling. For hardwood species like Spotted Gum or Blackbutt, pre-drilling with a 3mm bit is recommended to prevent splitting. Always pre-drill when fixing within 15mm of a board edge.
