Water-Based Timber Floor Lacquer (1K & 2K)

Timber floor lacquer is a film finish rolled over a sanded floor to protect it from foot traffic, grit and spills. This collection brings together the water-based lacquers we stock from German manufacturer Berger-Seidle, sold under its AquaSeal name, with the primers, sealers and additives that go under and into them. It is aimed at floor sanders and flooring contractors coating Australian hardwoods, oak and other sanded timber floors, and at experienced renovators prepared to follow the technical data sheet closely. Berger-Seidle advises one roller coat per day for CeramicStar and SmartStar to limit swelling pressure in the timber. Low temperatures, high humidity and poor ventilation can delay drying considerably, while AquaSeal Retarder helps finishes dry normally on extremely hot or dry sites.

How to choose a timber floor lacquer

• 1K or 2K: 1K lacquers such as SmartHome, EcoGold and NordicWhite are single-component, with no hardener to mix. 2K lacquers such as CeramicStar, SmartStar, GreenStar and the 2KPU range are mixed with a hardener before application, and the mix has a pot life: about 2 hours for CeramicStar and SmartStar, at least 18 hours for GreenStar. Shop 1K water-based polyurethane or 2K water-based polyurethane.
• Traffic: AquaSeal CeramicStar is ceramic-reinforced for high-traffic homes and demanding commercial projects, applied as 2 topcoats over one sealer coat. SmartStar is also designed for high-traffic areas, SmartHome suits normal traffic and NordicWhite medium traffic.
• Sheen and look: stocked sheens run from ultra matt (CeramicStar, NordicWhite) and matt (SmartHome, GreenStar) to satin/matt (CeramicStar, EcoGold) and semi-gloss (CeramicStar, GreenStar). NordicWhite whitens the timber, with the effect building coat by coat, and 2KPU NaturalWhite gives an extremely matt, almost invisible finish.
• Primer or sealer: AquaSeal FlexPrimer reduces edge bonding under AquaSeal topcoats and is the recommended primer for CeramicStar, SmartStar and EcoGold. On tannin-rich timber such as spotted gum, on most exotic species and over stain, ExoBloc gives a high blocking effect against wood ingredients, and the alcohol-based Uniquick Primer strongly isolates them too. • Anti-slip additive: AntiSlip R10 is a ceramic-based additive that adds surface structure to AquaSeal 2KPU, giving a highly abrasion-resistant coating for high-traffic floors.
