Questions about our Timber Screws & Fasteners?

What is the difference between a cladding screw and a facade screw?

Cladding screws have a countersunk head designed to pull timber boards tight against battens. Facade screws have a small cylindrical head that sits hidden inside a pre-routed channel on the board edge, giving an invisible fixing. SPAX makes facade screws. Anchormark makes cladding screws. Both types are available in this collection.

What finishes are available for cladding screws?

SPAX Facade Screws come in Standard (plain stainless), BLAX (black coated), and Antique (aged bronze look). Anchormark Cladding Screws come in plain stainless, Vintage (weathered grey), and Black. Choose a finish that blends with your cladding colour for a clean result.

Are these screws suitable for coastal environments?

All Anchormark cladding and panel screws are A4 316 marine-grade stainless steel, rated for direct coastal exposure. SPAX Facade Screws in the A2 304 grade suit sheltered and inland locations. For projects within 5km of the ocean, stick with A4 316 products or the SPAX Antique range which uses A4 316.

What screw sizes are available for cladding?

SPAX Facade Screws come in 4mm and 4.5mm diameter with lengths from 35mm to 80mm. Anchormark Cladding Screws are 4.5mm diameter in 37mm and 50mm lengths. Panel Screws are 3.5mm diameter in 37mm and 50mm. Choose your length based on cladding thickness plus the required penetration into the batten or framing behind it.

Do I need to pre-drill for cladding screws?

For softwood cladding like cedar or pine, pre-drilling is not required with either SPAX or Anchormark screws. For hardwood cladding like Spotted Gum, pre-drilling is recommended to prevent splitting and ensure a clean finish. SPAX Facade Screws with the 4CUT point reduce splitting risk, but pre-drilling is still best practice on hardwood boards thinner than 20mm.
