The right care for a timber floor depends on its finish. An oiled floor needs a cleaner suited to oiled timber and a maintenance product from time to time, while a lacquered floor needs a cleaner and care product suited to sealed surfaces. This collection gathers routine cleaning soaps, oil refreshers, maintenance oils and care kits from WOCA, Rubio Monocoat and Berger-Seidle. Match the product to the finish and test it on an inconspicuous spot first.

How to choose timber floor maintenance and care products

  • Cleaning oiled floors. WOCA Natural Soap is for weekly cleaning of oiled, waxed and soaped timber, in Natural or White to suit the oil colour. On Rubio Monocoat oiled floors, use Universal Soap, or Surface Care Spray, its ready-to-use version. Brilliance BioSoap is a soap-based concentrate for oiled and waxed floors.
  • Oil refreshers and maintenance oils. WOCA Oil Refresher cleans and re-oils in one step, and WOCA Maintenance Oil is polished into clean, dry timber for regular care, covering 30 to 40 m² per litre. On Oil Plus 2C floors, Rubio Refresh Eco restores the look of worn surfaces and Universal Maintenance Oil refreshes and nourishes the wood. WOCA Maintenance Gel is for minor scratches, scuffs and dull patches.
  • Lacquered floors. Clean weekly with WOCA Master Cleaner, and apply WOCA Master Care once a year, or more often in high-traffic areas, to smooth out fine scratches. Brilliance Neutral Cleaner suits lacquered, oiled or waxed surfaces, and Berger-Seidle recommends it for floors with water-based coatings.
  • Care kits. The WOCA Master Care Kit for lacquered floors holds Master Cleaner, Master Care, Intensive Wood Cleaner and a cotton cloth. The Oiled Floor kit pairs WOCA Natural Soap and Oil Refresher with a maintenance gel or oil, a cotton cloth and a white polishing pad.
  • System-specific care. WOCA Invisible Oil Care is made for floors treated with WOCA Invisible Oil Primer and Invisible Oil, and Rubio Exterior Soap cleans exterior timber finished with Hybrid Wood Protector or DuroGrit. Shop the full WOCA Denmark and Rubio Monocoat ranges for their finishes.

Getting a Maintenance Coat Right

Both WOCA Maintenance Oil and Maintenance Gel start with a deep clean. Wash the floor with WOCA Intensive Wood Cleaner, then let it dry for 7 to 8 hours before the oil, or rinse with clean water and allow 8 to 9 hours before the gel. Test on an inconspicuous spot first.

Work the oil or gel in until the timber looks saturated and uniform, keeping gel coats thin and even, then wipe off all the excess with a clean, dry cloth. The surface should not look wet.

Keep the room well ventilated and no colder than 15 °C, and keep water off the floor for 3 days while it cures.

Should I use Brilliance BioSoap or Brilliance Neutral Cleaner?

It depends on the finish. BioSoap is a soap-based concentrate for oiled and waxed floors, and its Berger-Seidle data sheet recommends Neutral Cleaner instead for floors with water-based coatings. Neutral Cleaner suits lacquered, oiled or waxed surfaces, as well as laminate and tiles, and can be used with the Brilliance SprayMop ComfortClean. Each litre of either concentrate makes up to 100 litres of cleaner.

What is the difference between an oil refresher, a maintenance oil and a maintenance gel?

They do different jobs on oiled timber. WOCA Oil Refresher is a cleaning step that deposits a thin layer of oil as it washes, and the WOCA Natural Soap instructions suggest it for quarterly maintenance. Maintenance Oil is polished into a clean, dry floor by hand or machine for regular care. Maintenance Gel is a ready-to-use gel for minor scratches, scuffs and dull patches.

How soon can I walk on or clean a floor after maintenance oil or gel?

It depends on the product and method. Machine-applied WOCA Maintenance Oil is pre-hardened after 4 hours and walkable with caution, while hand-applied oil needs 24 to 48 hours; avoid cleaning or water for 3 days. WOCA Maintenance Gel needs 4 to 6 hours before use, with water and heavy traffic kept off for 3 days. Rubio Universal Maintenance Oil lists a 6-day cure time.

How do I look after a white-oiled timber floor?

Use the White versions of WOCA's oiled-floor care. Natural Soap White is made for white-oiled wood, Oil Refresher White for white-oiled floors, and Maintenance Oil also comes in White, while the Natural soap and refresher suit natural or coloured oil. For scuffs and dull patches, Maintenance Gel Extra White is formulated to maintain white-pigmented oiled wood. On Oil Plus 2C floors, Rubio Universal Maintenance Oil comes in White.

Which WOCA Master Care Kit do I need?

Choose by finish. The Lacquer Floor kit suits lacquered timber, vinyl, LVT and laminate, and holds Master Cleaner 1 L for weekly cleans, Master Care 1 L, Intensive Wood Cleaner 250 ml and a cotton cloth. The Oiled Floor kit holds 1 L each of WOCA Natural Soap and Oil Refresher, a maintenance gel or oil, a cotton cloth and a white polishing pad.
