Timber Flooring Adhesives & Glue

A timber flooring adhesive has two jobs: hold every board firmly to the subfloor and stay flexible enough to allow for seasonal timber movement. This range brings together the solvent-free adhesives we stock for direct-stick timber flooring: SiegelBond silane-terminated polymer adhesives, Berger-Seidle BergerBond M1S (a silane-modified polyurethane) and Mapei Ultrabond Eco S955. It suits flooring trades and serious DIY installers laying Australian hardwood, engineered boards and parquetry. On concrete, the moisture reading decides whether you need a separate barrier, so test the slab and match the adhesive to the board and subfloor before you open a pail.

How to choose a timber flooring adhesive

• Solid and engineered boards: SiegelBond PRO70 and SiegelBond PRO95 are made for direct-stick solid and engineered timber and parquetry over concrete, plywood and particle board. PRO95 is an easy-trowel formula with a 30 to 45 minute working time; PRO70 has high green grab for easy placement.
• Strip, mosaic and prefinished floors: BergerBond M1S is an elastic, solvent-free and water-free SMP adhesive for solid wood, strip, mosaic and prefinished wood flooring, and is suitable for chair castors. Spread it with the BergerTool ToothedTrowel.
• All timber floor types: Mapei Ultrabond Eco S955 is designed for all types of timber flooring, including parquetry, with very low VOC emissions (EMICODE EC1 R Plus) and a 50 to 60 minute open time.
• Damp slabs: PRO70 and PRO95 act as a moisture barrier when trowelled at full coverage with a 5 or 6 mm V-notch trowel. If the slab's relative humidity (RH) reading is higher than your adhesive allows, seal it first with Acouslim moisture barrier (check it suits your adhesive): one coat at 84 to 90% RH, two coats at 90 to 98% RH. At 98% RH and above, the slab is too wet for timber flooring.
• Weak or uneven slabs: consolidate dusty or powdery concrete with Siegel Prime P10 and level uneven areas with a self-levelling compound such as Siegel SuperLevel Pro before you trowel adhesive.
• Pail or sausage: 15 kg SiegelBond pails and the 21 kg M1S bucket suit whole rooms; 600 ml SiegelBond sausages and the 975 g M1S sausage suit stairs, repairs and small areas.
