Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need a moisture barrier under timber flooring?
Always test concrete substrates for moisture before installation. Australian standards require moisture testing of all concrete slabs. If the slab exceeds the adhesive manufacturer's moisture tolerance, a moisture barrier such as Acouslim Moisture Seal must be applied before glue-down installation.
Can I apply adhesive directly over Acouslim Moisture Seal?
Yes. Acouslim Moisture Seal functions as both a moisture barrier and a bonding primer. Once cured, apply your timber flooring adhesive directly over it without an additional primer coat.
How much coverage does a 12kg container provide?
Coverage depends on the porosity of the concrete substrate and the number of coats required. Approximately 6-8 square metres per kilogram for a single coat on standard concrete. Check the technical data sheet for specific substrate guidance.
Is Acouslim suitable for heated slabs?
Yes. Acouslim Moisture Seal is approved for use on radiant heated subfloors. Follow the standard heating protocol — commission the heating system and run through a full heating cycle before applying the moisture barrier.
